Notes: The NW Hurricane Relief Center is a shelter and a distribution center for other shelters. The shelter that contacted us first was Caney Camp. Caney has since closed and has sent their supplies back to the relief center. The relief center still needs help. ***** Here is the thread for historical purposes: Have plenty of shampoo. It was brought to my attention that at the bottom of my previous email yahoo has added a link to make donations for hurricaine relief - this is not connected with me personally or my shelter at all in any way - that is a yahoo thing that I have no idea where that money goes or is accounted for. Once again - if you wish to donate to our shelter please go to www.caneycamp.com, or make checks payable to Caney Conference Center at po box 707 Minden, LA 71058, or you can make checks payable to Caney Conference Center and send in care of First United Methodist Church 903 Broadway Minden, LA 71055. Thanks guys! And sorry for any confusion! Hi everyone - I have been without internet access for about 4 days on top of back to the doctor with my son - but I have still be at the shelter every day - we are standing at around 120-125 over the last week - we had one group move out last night but have gotten a call from a nearby town where there are 30 people in a town building that have to be moved within a week - so apparently we will be trying to find space for them as we have a few more hoping to head home by the end of the week. We still are going day by date as far as plans - for those of you who have asked about volunteering on counseling and entertaining my hang up has been that i don't know day to day if we're going to have people, however if we move this other group in they are apparently going to be more long term - we also have several gone from families that we currently have - that left the family here but went to see how bad it was - and we'll know more by the end of the week if we'll be moving more out or if they'll be staying - we finally had red cross send us paperwork over the weekend so we could sign up all our shelter guests and send that back to the red cross to get them some assistance from red cross - my understanding is 300-1200 dollars depending on family size - but we as a shelter have not received any help from red cross - we did however, hallelujah receive a reimbursement of housing expenses for 1 month from fema - we probably won't see any more - but that is fantastic - so your donations are being used to help people every day still - we bought a car seat today for a 5 month old - we bought a used table and chairs and a new set of pots and pans for a family that is relocating here - we are still putting gas in peoples cars, etc., we are furnishing those planning to go back with cleaning supplies to take with them, so we are still in need of donations and are using them to directly affect people who need it - with 0 administrative cost - 0 deductions for overhead etc., 100% of your donations going straight to the evacuees. Please keep us in your prayers!
